The 5-Minute Test: How to Know If Your Website’s Working

ree

If you only had five minutes to find out whether your website is actually doing its job, what would you look for?At Mevo Creative Studios, we’ve built hundreds of websites for businesses of all sizes, and one thing we’ve learned is that great design means nothing if your site isn’t working. Here’s how to run a quick five-minute test to see where yours stands.

1. Open Your Website on Your Phone

More than half of all web traffic now happens on mobile.

✅ Does your site load quickly?

✅ Are buttons easy to tap?

✅ Can you read everything without zooming in?

If the answer to any of these is “no,” it’s time for an update. A poor mobile experience can cost you visitors before they ever reach out.

2. See If You Know What to Do

Pretend you’re visiting your website for the first time. Within 5 seconds, can you tell:

  • What your business does

  • Who it serves

  • What you should do next (call, book, buy, or learn more)

If it’s not crystal clear, your visitors might be confused too. Clear messaging and simple calls to action keep people moving in the right direction.

3. Check Your Load Speed

You can use Google PageSpeed Insights to test your site.If your website takes longer than 3 seconds to load, you could be losing half your visitors before they even see your content. A fast website keeps people engaged and helps your SEO, too.

4. Look at Your First Impression

Your homepage should instantly feel like you. Ask yourself:

  • Does the design reflect your brand’s personality?

  • Are your images clean and consistent?

  • Does it feel trustworthy and professional?

People decide whether to stay or leave within seconds. Make sure your site makes a strong first impression.

5. Test Your Contact Form

Fill out your own contact or inquiry form. Did it work smoothly? Did you get a confirmation message or email? A broken or confusing form can quietly cost you new leads, even if everything else looks perfect.

Final Thoughts

If your website passed all five tests, that’s fantastic. If not, don’t worry. Most businesses find at least one area that needs improvement. At Mevo Creative Studios, we help brands turn their websites into tools that work for them, not against them.
